Moreton Pinkney Bowls Club

The Moreton Pinkney Bowls Club was started in 1991 to play Short Mat Bowls in the Village Hall, becoming formally constituted and affiliated to the Northamptonshire Short Mat Bowls Association in May 1992.

From these earliest years, the Club participated in County competitions with some success. In 1993, we won the inaugural county-wide Earl Spencer Memorial Tournament and repeated this result the following year. With dwindling membership in recent years, however, we have not been able to participate in County activities in recent years.

Short Mat Bowls is very popular in Northamptonshire and there are many local clubs against whom we play regular friendly matches. Each year, we hold a tournament in memory of two former members, to which we invite six local clubs.

This is a game suitable for players of all ages - on one occasion, we had an 11-year old and a 96-year old playing in the same team. Being played indoors, it does not suffer from the vagaries of the weather and provides an interesting sporting activity within the village - no transport problems.

The Club welcomes new players and beginners too, and we can provide all the equipment except footwear. We can also provide instruction and guidance for newcomers.

Playing sessions are on Tuesday evenings from 7.30pm - 9.30pm in the Village Hall. So why not come along and try your hand? We shall be very pleased to see you.
